“Science Day” was held at the RSSC

On March 27, 2024, an “Open Day” dedicated to “Science Day” was held at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS. The event was attended by Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, employees of specialized departments of the Center, university students and schoolchildren.

The General Director of the RSSC, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli provided the participants with detailed information about the complex seismological, geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical studies carried out at the Republican Seismic Survey Center. Then General Director Gurban Yetirmishli spoke about the process of receiving seismic waves from seismic stations of the RSSC to the Monitoring Center, processing seismic wave data, methods for studying the mechanism of earthquake sources, GPS studies and the results obtained.

In addition, the heads of the relevant departments of the Center informed the participants about the work done in the relevant departments and the results obtained, the seismic situation of Azerbaijan, the study of the mechanisms of earthquake sources, and the work of GPS stations.

Then the guests were shown the recording of waves using geophysical instruments used in field expeditionary research, seismological and geophysical instruments used in research conducted on the territory of Azerbaijan from 1902 to the present day. At the same time, presentations were made on the stages of development of seismology in Azerbaijan and the results obtained over the past hundred years.

It should be noted that according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr.Ilham Aliyev, dated April 9, 2018 on the establishment of “Science Day” in the Republic of Azerbaijan, in our country March 27 is annually celebrated as “Science Day”.
