Uzbek seismologists visited Republican Seismic Survey Center
Azamat Zakirov and Bobur Abdurakhmanov, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, employees of the Center for Advanced Technologies under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who are on a visit to Azerbaijan, visited the Republican Seismic Survey Center (RSSC) of ANAS. At the meeting with the General Director of the RSSC ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, discussions were held on expanding bilateral cooperation between the seismological Centers of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, conducting joint scientific research, as well as mutual exchange of experience.
General Director of the RSSC ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli informed the guests about the scientific research conducted at the RSSC and the results achieved, noting that the research directions of the Center are multifaceted. The Center conducts comprehensive seismological, geophysical and geochemical studies on the territory of the republic, as well as using seismic stations to monitor the dynamics of mud volcanoes on the Absheron Peninsula and adjacent territories.
Speaking about the activities of the RSSC in the field of international cooperation, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli noted that the Center cooperates with leading universities in the world (Oxford University, University of Missouri, University of Michigan, etc.) and international seismological centers. Noting the possibility of participation of seismologists from Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in joint scientific projects, the General Director said that this is also effective in terms of further expansion of bilateral cooperation and exchange of experience.
Azamat Zakirov, an employee of the Center for Advanced Technologies under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, noted the interest in seismological research conducted in Azerbaijan, stressing that Azerbaijani seismologists have achieved great success in this field. Speaking about the interest in the results obtained by Azerbaijani seismologists, the Uzbek guest noted that the mutual exchange of experience between scientific research institutions of the two countries is useful in terms of obtaining new scientific results.
Then the guests got acquainted with the work carried out in the Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismic Survey Center, the departments “Dynamics of earthquake sources” and “Geodynamics". Further Sabina Kazimova, head of the department “Dynamics of Earthquake Sources”, Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor, made an extensive presentation on scientific research conducted at the Center and the results obtained. The issues of interest to the guests were clarified at the meeting.
The meeting ended with the presentation of gifts and a commemorative photo.
