A new article by the General Director of the RSSC was published in the journal of the Seismological Society of America “Seismological Research”

A new article “Compilation of a Comprehensive Earthquake Catalogue and Relocations in the Caucasus Region” was published in the journal “Seismological Research” of the Seismological Society of America, co-authored by the General Director of the RSSC ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, along with foreign scientists.

The article discusses the history and development of instrumental seismic monitoring. It was noted that, within the framework of cooperation between the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Ilya State University and the Republican Seismic Survey Centre of ANAS, a large catalogue of earthquakes has been prepared for the Caucasus and adjacent regions to assess seismic hazard with a broader probabilistic prognosis. As part of this project, paper bulletins from the Soviet era were digitized and a unified catalogue of earthquakes was compiled based on regional bulletins. A one-dimensional velocity model was also developed and earthquake data was used for re-processing. The final catalogue contains the parameters of 16,963 earthquakes of magnitude 3.7 and above in the Caucasus region from 1900 to 2015.

It should be noted that the “Seismological Research” journal of the Seismological Society of America, part of the international indexing system Web of Science Core Collection: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), has an impact factor of 3.3 and is in the first quarter of Q1 in the field of geophysics.
