The RSSC honored the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy
On February 23, an event dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy was held at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, organized by the Trade Union. A moment of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy and the martyrs who fell in the battles for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the event, the General Director of the RSSC ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli noted that the Khojaly tragedy is a genocide, committed inhuman atrocities and the most serious crime in the history of mankind. According to the general director, who said that the Armenians in Khojaly mercilessly killed anyone who was Azerbaijani, regardless of their affiliation, the purpose of such massacres was to intimidate the Azerbaijani people and break their will. Noting that a number of disasters befell our people after the Khojaly tragedy, G.Yetirmishli said that such massacres were prevented after Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev came to power in 1993. “At that time, Azerbaijan had just gained independence. The country did not have strong financial resources. For 30 years, the Azerbaijani people have not received any support from the international community in solving this problem. Over these 30 years, the work of international mediators has not yielded any results. Therefore, the people of Azerbaijan had to have their word in solving this problem, and they did it.”
The General Director said that, despite the numerous massacres committed against our people in the early 90s of the last century, the Azerbaijani people always believed that our occupied lands would be liberated. Professor G.Yetirmishli spoke about the heroism of the Azerbaijani army during the 44-day Patriotic War. Noting that under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev during the 44-day Patriotic War, Azerbaijani soldiers and officers taught a great lesson not only to Armenians, but also to their patrons in the world, the General Director of the RSSC also spoke about the growing reputation of Azerbaijan in the world after the war. In his speech, he stressed the importance of remembering the bloody events of our people and passing them on to future generations.
Later, a member of the trade union organization of the Center Bakhtiyar Khanbutov spoke about the events that took place in Karabakh on the eve of the Khojaly tragedy.
The event ended with a screening of a documentary film dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy.
