The RSSC honored the memory of the victims of the January 20 tragedy
The Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS held an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. The memory of martyrs who died for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was revered with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the event, general director of the RSSC, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Gurban Yetirmishli noted that the tragedy of January 20 is a bloody memory of the Azerbaijani people. Noting that this tragedy will never be forgotten, the general director spoke about the processes taking place in Azerbaijan during the tragedy and the incompetence of the country's leadership at that time. According to him, despite the bloody reprisal of the Soviet troops in Baku, they could not break the will of the Azerbaijani people. Speaking about the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Gurban Yetirmishli said: “Although the Soviet system still existed, the Great Leader risked his life and came to the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow. He told the world that those who led the Soviet government at that time were responsible for this tragedy. ”
He also noted that the political assessment of the incident by the Azerbaijani parliament was carried out at the initiative of Heydar Aliyev. The Azerbaijani government has always been attentive to martyrs and their families who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our lands and independence of the country, and also noted that measures were taken to solve their problems.
Ramiz Iskenderov, deputy of general director of the RSSC, and Tahir Mammadli, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, head of the “Seismology” department, also spoke about the tragedy at the event.
The event ended with the screening of a film dedicated to martyrs of January 20.
