The RSSC held a press conference

On February 6, at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, the General Director of the RSSC, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli held a press conference on the earthquake that occurred in the fraternal Republic of Turkey.
At the beginning of the event, with the participation of media representatives, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims who died during the earthquake in the brotherly country. The general director of the RSSC said that the earthquake in Turkey was recorded by seismic stations in Azerbaijan.
At 05:17 local time (Azerbaijan), an earthquake of magnitude Mw=7.8 occurred in Turkey. The epicenter of the earthquake is the city of Kahramanmarash. The earthquake caused great destruction in Gaziantep, Hatay, Adana, Shanliurfa, Malatya and other cities. Destruction has also been recorded in Syria. Stating that the epicenter of the earthquake is far from Azerbaijan, the general director said that the earthquake did not affect the sources of earthquakes in Azerbaijan.
At a press conference, the General Director of the RSSC drew attention to the collapse of buildings during the earthquake. According to him, it is necessary to assess the seismicity of the area during the construction of buildings and structures, because the seismicity of complex areas is different.
