The head of the RSSC department visited Kazakhstan

On March 28-29, 2023, the conference "Calibration of seismic data" was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The conference was held within the framework of the international project "Expansion of the seismic network in the Caucasus and Central Asia". The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, the United States and other partner countries. Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Sabina Kazimova, Doctor of Philosophy of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor, head of the department "Dynamics of Earthquake Sources" of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS.

The main discussions at the conference were related to the construction of a velocity model to accurately determine the coordinates of earthquakes. It was reported that in order to obtain accurate information about hypocenters, assess seismic hazard, clarify the locations of tectonic faults, and obtain an accurate geological model of the earth's crust, a new accurate velocity model should be compiled. To do this, it was proposed to conduct a series of nuclear and industrial explosions, as well as to register these explosions at seismic stations. Representatives of the participating countries spoke at the conference about the currently used velocity models.

Sabina Kazimova, head of the department "Dynamics of Earthquake Sources" of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Associate Professor, made a presentation on the topic "Seismic calibration experience in Azerbaijan - past, present and future." Following the results of the conference, the minutes of the meeting were drawn up.
