Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and Oxford University of Great Britain started cooperation

Since the beginning of this year, negotiations are underway on cooperation between the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the Oxford University of Great Britain. The negotiations envisage joint research of young scientists and specialists of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the Oxford University of Great Britain, exchange of experience and personnel and joint participation in international projects, as well as the implementation of joint projects.

In this context, the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the Oxford University of Great Britain jointly organized online discussions on the topic “Joint research of active tectonics and earthquakes in Azerbaijan and the South Caspian Sea” through the “Zoom” platform. The project coordinator is Rauf Muradov, deputy of general directorof the RSSC for science, doctor of philosophy in technical sciences, associate professor.

Corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Rashid Djavanshir recently visited the RSSC Seismic Monitoring Network in connection with scientific research carried out at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS. Based on the results obtained, the guest was acquainted with the activities of the seismic stations of the Center, scientific research and the work done.

During the discussions, the general director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli stressed the importance of cooperation between the RSSC and Oxford University, Great Britain. He considered it important to hold regular talks on the topic "Joint research of active tectonics and earthquakes in Azerbaijan and the South Caspian." At the same time, he informed about the methods of studying earthquakes in the RSSC. Sabina Kazimova, doctor of philosophy in geological and mineralogical sciences, associate professor, head of the "Dynamics of earthquake sources" departmentof the RSSC ANAS, spoke about the research work carried out by the Republican Seismic Survey Center, as well as about cooperation with the International Livermore Laboratory.

The project also provides for the visit of Professor of Oxford University Richard Walker to Azerbaijan in September 2021.
