Representative of the European Union visited RSSC
On April 28, a meeting with the head of the group of the third stage of the Eastern Program of the European Union for the prevention of natural and technogenic disasters, Peter Glerum was held at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS. The meeting was attended by the general director of the RSSC, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, chief engineer Ramiz Iskenderov, head of the International Relations department Telman Djafarov and head of the Information department Vusala Rafiggizi.
Speaking about the purpose of his visit, Peter Glerum said that the main issues of interest are earthquake risk reduction and seismicity assessment. Expressing keen interest in the work carried out by the Center in this direction, the guest said that he intended to cooperate with the Center.
During the meeting, the general director of the RSSC, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli informed the guest about the ongoing seismic assessment work in Azerbaijan. The general director said that the territory of Azerbaijan, especially the territory of Baku, has a complex geological structure. Therefore, it is important to separately study the seismicity of the area during any construction work.
The guest was also informed about the complex seismological, geophysical and geochemical studies carried out at the Center and the results obtained. Noting the existence of wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of seismic assessment and seismic risk reduction in the territory of Azerbaijan, the parties stressed the need to start cooperation in this area.
