Professor Tuna Onur visited the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations

On October 25 Professor of Victoria University (Canada) Tuna Onur, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, visited the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The meeting was attended by deputy head of the agency Elkhan Asadov, heads and employees of relevant institutions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, head of the "Macroseismic Research" department of the RSSC ANAS, Ph.D. in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor Eytibar Garaveliyev, as well as junior researchers - Ilhama Djalilova and Firuza Mehdizade.

Professor Tuna Onur spoke about the norms and rules applied in the countries of the world in the field of seismic hazard and risk assessment, and emphasized the importance of applying these rules in Azerbaijan. In her speech, the professor also spoke about her research in this area and the results obtained.

Elkhan Asadov, deputy head of the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, positively assessed the cooperation between the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and Victoria University (Canada).

The deputy head did not rule out the possibility of considering proposals for making certain changes to the documents in order to adapt the norms and rules in the field of seismic assessment in Azerbaijan to international standards. In this regard, he stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the RSSC, the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Research Institute of Construction and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Other issues of interest to the parties were also clarified at the meeting.
