The president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Alexander Sergeyev, who was on a business trip to Baku, visited the Republican Seismic Survey Center.
The meeting was attended by the vice-president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technologies, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of ANAS, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov and general director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Gurban Yetirmishli, it was said that at present there is a network of seismic stations operating on the territory of the republic, consisting of 35 permanent satellite communication stations. The data received through these stations are transmitted to the Monitoring Center in real time. It was also emphasized that the weakest shocks are recorded by seismic stations, and this data is used in scientific studies.
There are also 24 GPS stations, 6 geophysical and 5 geochemical stations of the RSSC, which allow for complex seismic, geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical studies.
At the meeting, Sabina Kazimova, head of the department of “Dynamics of Earthquake Sources” of the Republican Seismic Survey Center, doctor of philosophy in geological and mineralogical sciences, gave a presentation on integrated seismological, geophysical, geodynamic, geochemical research and processing of results.
The president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Alexander Sergeyev highly appreciated the work carried out at the Center, and noted that good results were achieved in the course of seismological studies conducted in Azerbaijan. He stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan in this area and expressed confidence that this would be beneficial for both parties.
