National Center for Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates on cooperation with RSSC
On April 19, representatives of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the head of the Tsunami Warning Center of the National Center for Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates Khalifa Al Ebri held online discussions on the Zoom platform.
The meeting was attended by the head of the “Dynamics of earthquake sources”department, Ph.D. in geology and mineralogy, associate professor Sabina Kazimova, head of the Bureau of earthquake research, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences Saida Ismayilova, deputy head of the Bureau, system administrator Rugiya Kerimova, head of the "International Relations" department Telman Djafarov and Vusala Rafiggizi, head of the "Information" department.
Sabina Kazimova, doctor of philosophy in geology and mineralogy, associate professor, head of the “Dynamics of earthquake sources”departmentof the RSSC ANAS, said that the Center is currently conducting comprehensive seismic-geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical studies in the country. Noting that seismological studies were carried out through satellite-controlled telemetry stations, the head of the department informed about the work of the Seismic Monitoring Center and seismic stations installed in Karabakh. It was also noted that for the first time in the world, seismic stations have been installed around mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan, with the help of which the dynamics of mud volcanoes will be studied.
It was also noted that the seismic stations produced by «Kinemetrics» were installed in Dubai by Azerbaijani seismologists several years ago with the consent of the company. The meeting also provided information on geophysical research conducted by the Center and the operation of GPS stations.
The head of the Tsunami Warning Center of the National Center for Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa Al Ebri, also spoke about the seismic surveys carried out by his organization and the results obtained. He noted that seismological studies in Azerbaijan are at a high level. Khalifa Al Ebri expressed the desire of the Arab side to establish bilateral cooperation with the RSSC. It is also possible to exchange experience and implement joint projects.
As a result of the meeting, the parties reached a preliminary agreement on signing a memorandum of cooperation. Issues of mutual interest were also clarified at the meeting.
