General Director of the RSSC took part in the presentation of the international project

On July 27, the general director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli took part in the presentation of the international project Regional Earthquake Monitoring Systems (REMS) and developing quick damage and loss assessment system in Central and West Asia, organized by the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES).

 

At the meeting held on the Microsoft Teams platform, Azerbaijan was represented by deputy general director for science, doctor of philosophy of technical sciences, associate professor Rauf Muradov, head of the “Seismology” department, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences Tahir Mammadli, head of the “Dynamicsof earthquake sources” department, doctor of philosophy in geological and mineralogical sciences, associate professor Sabina Kazimova, head of the "International relations" department Telman Jafarov, as well as Dr. Cvetan Cvetkovski, Officer in Charge, UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office, Dr. Mohammad Tatar, vice-president of International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Dr. Kambod Amini Hosseini, Director Risk Management Research Center, International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Mr. Soichiro Yasukawa, Programme Specialist on Disaster Risk Reduction, UNESCO Dr. Cvetan Cvetkovski presented information about the project to the participants of the event.

Then the vice-president of the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) made a presentation on the institute, and Dr. Kambod Amini Hosseini, Director Risk Management Research Center, International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), spoke about the activities of the UNESCO Category II Center.

Participants discussed the main requirements and opportunities for quick assessment of earthquake damage and losses, the needs of potential project partners and available opportunities to share, regional cooperation to improve the capacity of earthquake risk assessment and management.

At the end of the meeting, the initiative to create a Regional Earthquake Monitoring Systems (REMS) was supported by all participants.
