“Earthquakes of February 6, 2023 and the Engineering Panel” online meeting was held

On February 6, an online meeting was held on the topic “Earthquakes of February 6, 2023 and Engineering Panel” with the participation of representatives of Kocaeli University of the Republic of Turkey regarding the earthquake that occurred in the city of Kahramanmaraş of the Republic of Turkey on February 6 last year.

The meeting was attended by teacher staff from the Kocaeli University of the Republic of Turkey - Professor Fadime Sercelik, Doctor of Geophysical Engineering Tahir Serkan Irmak, Doctor of Geophysical Engineering Ozkan Coruk, Doctor of Environmental Engineering Kadriya Oktor, Doctor of Engineering Cartography Erman Şentürk, Doctor of Civil Engineering Serkan Engin, as well as the General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli and staff of the Center.

At the meeting, scientists presented reports on earthquakes, the consequences of earthquakes, processes occurring in the Earth, and the current situation in the seismic region.

Fadime Sercelik, a professor at Kocaeli University of the Republic of Turkey, spoke about the earthquake that occurred in Turkey on February 6 last year. Professor Fadime Sercelik thanked her colleagues, noting the unprecedented support of Azerbaijan in eliminating the consequences of the earthquake.

General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli said that a year has passed since the terrible earthquakes that occurred in Turkey in February 2023 and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people. Professor Gurban Yetirmishli wished Allah's mercy to those killed in the earthquake and patience to their relatives and friends.

Professor Gurban Yetirmishli spoke about gravimetric, magnetometric, engineering-seismic and macroseismic studies carried out jointly with the staff of the Center in the city of Kahramanmaraş in April 2023, which suffered the most from the earthquake in the region of brotherly Turkey, and the settlement of Pazarchik, which is the epicenter of the earthquake. Gurban Yetirmishli stated that as a result of the research work carried out by RSSC specialists, the tension of the situation at the site was determined, and said that during construction work at the site, the deep structure with which the cracks are associated is determined, and the seismicity of the area should also be studied and assessed.

The meeting continued with presentations on safety issues in buildings constructed in seismic regions. Presentations were made by Doctor of Geophysical Engineering Tahir Serkan Irmak “February 6, 2023 - Seismological Features of the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes”, Doctor of Geophysical Engineering Ozkan Coruk “The Influence of Engineering-Geological Properties of Soils on Structural Damage during the February 6 Earthquakes”, Doctor of Environmental Engineering Kadriya Oktor “Influence waste after earthquake on the environment", Doctor of Engineering Cartography Erman Şentürk "Earthquake prognosing using satellite data and data related to the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes" and Doctor of Civil Engineering Serkan Engin "Consequences of the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes on February 6 in first year".

Next, the head of the Macroseismic Research department of the RSSC, Doctor of Philosophy in Geology and Mineralogy, Associate Professor Eytibar Garaveliyev spoke about gravimetric, magnetometric, engineering-seismic and macroseismic studies carried out in the city of Kahramanmaraş, which suffered the most from the destruction. in the seismic region of Turkey, as well as in the village of Pazarchik, which became the epicenter of the earthquake.

The meeting ended with mutual discussion and answers to questions.
