Discussions on the seismicity of construction sites were held at the RSSC

Rengin Gök, USA Seismic Cooperation Program Manager, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Tuna Onur, a professor at the Geological Survey of Canada, visited Baku on a business trip. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the work done in the framework of the project “Development of seismic networks in Central Asia and the Caucasus”, as well as to train the staff of the Сenter in international standards for information processing programs.

Foreign guests met with the general director of the Center, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Gurban Yetirmishli at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS. Head of the “Seismology” department of the RSSC, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences Tahir Mammadli, head of the “Engineering Geology and Seismic Microzoning” department Zahra Aliyeva, head of the “Macroseismic Research” department, Etibar Garavelyiev, head of the “International Relations” department Telman Jafarov also attended the meeting.

The discussions touched upon the current state of cooperation between the two countries, as well as the work carried out in Azerbaijan within the framework of the project “Development of seismic networks in Central Asia and the Caucasus”, as well as the use of new building standards for seismic activity in construction sites. Experts put forward proposals for the application of new building codes in seismic studies in Azerbaijan, especially in Baku and other major cities of Azerbaijan, saying that many countries have already applied these standards. Also, according to the bilateral cooperation, an agreement was reached on sending staff of the RSSC to study in the USA. Foreign guests will hold in Baku a series of official meetings on the application of new building codes for studying seismicity at construction sites.
