Azerbaijani seismologists start research in seismic region of Turkey
Azerbaijani seismologists will study the current seismic situation in the territory after the terrible earthquake that occurred in the Republic of Turkey on February 6 this year. To this end, on April 5, under the leadership of the General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, a group of specialists from the Center went on a visit to the fraternal country.
During the visit, Azerbaijani seismologists are expected to conduct comprehensive geophysical and seismic studies at the epicenter of the earthquake, in Kahramanmarash and Khatai. Azerbaijani specialists will study the current situation in deep faults in the area of the earthquake. In addition, Azerbaijani specialists will conduct a seismic assessment of construction sites in the area. The study will be carried out within the framework of cooperation between the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the Department of Earthquakes of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey (AFAD). It should also be noted the wide cooperation between the RSSC and the Department of Earthquakes AFAD in the field of mutual exchange of data received from seismic stations.
The main goal of Azerbaijani seismologists conducting complex geophysical and seismic studies in the earthquake area is to study the local seismicity and support the fraternal country in this direction.
