A video conference was held between partner countries on the implementation of the project "Seismic Network Expansion in the Caucasus and Central Asia"

On July 22, a video conference of representatives of the relevant organizations of the partner countries was held in connection with the implementation of the project "Seismic Network Expansion in the Caucasus and Central Asia". The meeting was attended by general director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, deputies of general director Ramiz Iskenderov and Rauf Muradov, head of the "International Relations" department Telman Jafarov.

 

Among foreign partners the video conference was attended by project manager of international cooperation of the Scientific and Technology Center of Ukraine Elena Taberko, Chief Engineer of the Seismological Laboratory of the Department of Geological Sciences of the Michigan State University Daniel Burk, Director of the National Information Center of Kazakhstan Nataliya Mikhaylova, Head of the Seismological Projects Department of the Livermore National Laboratory Rengin Gok, President of the United States Institute of Seismological Research (IRIS) Robert Woodward, Coordinator of the placement of IRIS stations Ryan Bierma, Manager Bob Busby, Program Manager Catherine Hafner, Station Specialist Jeremy Miner, Project Manager Casey Aderhold, Professor Kevin Mackey from the Department of Earth Sciences and the Environment Michigan State University, Director of the Center for Seismic Monitoring of Georgia, Tea Godoladze and others.

 

It should be noted that the project provides for the installation of 22 new seismic stations in Azerbaijan with the support of the Scientific and Technology Center of Ukraine. Due to the ongoing pandemic situation with the COVID19 virus in the world, the stations are expected to be delivered to Azerbaijan at the end of January 2021. During the discussions, it was decided to select sites for the installation of new stations, conduct preliminary preparatory work in accordance with the parameters of the purchased equipment and conduct trainings on other technical issues.
