A seminar was held at the RSSC
On February 22, a seminar was held at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS. The seminar discussed the development of complex seismological and geophysical studies carried out at the Center, the definition of new scientific directions, the installation of new seismic stations.
General director of the RSSC, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli said that the expansion of the seismic monitoring network poses new challenges for the employees of the Center. Noting that the process of installing seismic stations imported into the country is underway, the general director spoke about the work to be done after their installation. At the seminar were also discussed the technical capabilities of the stations and the programs used in the processing of data from the stations.
The seminar also touched upon the cooperation between the Department of Earthquakes of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey and the RSSC. It should be noted that under the joint cooperation agreement between the AFAD Department of Earthquakes and the RSSC, the parties have an agreement on the mutual exchange of information about earthquakes. According to the agreement, the programs are used in the processing of data from seismic stations and the exchange of experience will be carried out.
The seminar was attended by the head of the department "Dynamics of earthquake sources", doctor of philosophy in geology and mineralogy, associate professor Sabina Kazimova, head of the department "Macroseismic researches", doctor of philosophy in geology and mineralogy, associate professor Eytibar Garaveliyev, head of the department "Geodynamics", doctor philosophy in geology and mineralogy, associate professor Ilyas Kazimov, as well as the head of the department of "International Relations" Telman Djafarov.
The speakers spoke about the processing programs used in Turkey and the possibility of their use in Azerbaijan, as well as the expansion of the seismic monitoring network and the installation of new seismic stations.
General director G.Yetirmishli said that the plan of the Center's activities includes carrying out comprehensive seismic surveys in Karabakh. According to him, comprehensive seismological and geophysical studies will be carried out in the liberated territories. As part of the Year of Shusha, it is planned to install a seismic station near the city of Shusha. In addition, an international conference dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Shamakhi earthquake will be held in May this year. The conference will be held with the support of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and organized by the RSSC. Currently, work is underway in this direction.
