A press conference was held at the RSSC in connection with the earthquake in the Caspian Sea

Today at 08:15:41 local time, in connection with the earthquake that occurred in the Caspian Sea, a press conference was held at the Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The press conference for media representatives was attended by the General Director of the RSSC, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, Deputy Head of the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety under the Ministry of Emergency Situations Elkhan Asadov and the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Elshad Hadjiyev.

Speaking at a press conference, the General Director of the RSSC, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli said that today at 08:15:41 local time, an earthquake was recorded in the Caspian Sea, 51 km northeast of Altyagach station. The earthquake was felt in Altyagach, Siyazan, Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Gobustan regions, as well as on the Absheron Peninsula. In areas close to the source of the earthquake, the magnitude was felt at 5 points, in adjacent areas in some places up to 4, and in places up to 3 points.

Noting that the earthquake was felt in some areas of Baku, the general director said that after the earthquake, the RSSC Monitoring Center recorded five aftershocks. Noting that aftershocks may continue at the epicenter of the earthquake, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli said that the people have no reason to worry and alarm, and called on the population not to worry and to receive information from official sources.

The General Director of the RSSC also added that the earthquake that occurred today was recorded near the epicenter of the earthquake that occurred in July this year in the Caspian Sea (an earthquake that occurred in the Caspian Sea on 07/04/2023 at 00:01 local time (ml=5.6; h=66 km).

During his speech, the General Director also gave detailed information about the mechanism of the earthquake source, the energy released during an earthquake, seismically active regions of Azerbaijan, as well as the comprehensive seismological-geophysical, geodynamic and geochemical studies carried out.

Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Head of the State Agency for Control over Construction Safety under the Ministry of Emergency Situations Elkhan Asadov said that after the earthquake, destruction and casualties were not recorded by the relevant institutions of the ministry. Stating that all relevant structures of the ministry are working on a daily basis, the representative of the department called on the population not to worry and to follow the information from official institutions.

The head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Elshad Hadjiyev, noted that in connection with the earthquake, all institutions of the department switched to an enhanced operating mode, and control was strengthened in areas that cause concern among citizens. According to him, after the earthquake, no thefts or other similar negative cases were recorded in any area.
