Turkey intends to support Azerbaijan in the installation of seismic stations in Karabakh

On December 1, at the Monitoring Center of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, was held a meeting with a delegation headed by the deputy chairman of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Ismayil Palakoglu. The meeting was attended by deputy chairman of AFAD Ismayil Palakoglu, head of Department of Earthquakes Murat Nurlu, head of division of Department of Earthquakes Vedat Ozsaradj and the employee of Department Önder Gödez.

 

Azerbaijan was represented by Vice President of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Information Technologies, Academician Rasim Alguliyev, general director of the RSSC, corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, deputy general director for science, doctor of philosophy in technical sciences, associate professor Rauf Muradov, as well as heads of departments of the Center.

 

At the meeting, ANAS Vice President, Director of the Institute of Information Technologies, Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey are brotherly countries and how important it is to establish close cooperation between our countries in the field of research and study of earthquakes, as in all other areas. Noting that the territory of both Azerbaijan and Turkey is located in seismically active regions, academician R.Alguliyev added that there are great opportunities and potential for broad cooperation on both sides. “The latest realities between our countries make it important for us to unite on every issue. I am confident that thanks to the expansion of cooperation between AFAD and the RSSC, great results will be achieved in the study of natural disasters and earthquakes."

 

“The joy of Azerbaijan is our joy, its sorrow is our sorrow,” said Ismayil Palakoglu, deputy chairman of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, adding that no country in the world is protected from natural disasters. “Natural disasters and earthquakes occur both in Turkey and in Azerbaijan. The main purpose of our visit is to further expand our cooperation in these areas,” said the deputy chairman of AFAD, noting that they are ready to provide all kinds of support to the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS in the field of earthquake studies. “We know that our Azerbaijani brothers have done great and successful work in this area. For our part, we are ready to provide the Azerbaijani side with any support in the field of data transmission from seismic stations, exchange of experience, as well as the installation of seismic stations."

 

At the meeting, the head of the department "Dynamics of earthquake sources" RSSC, doctor of philosophy in geology and mineralogy, associate professor Sabina Kazimova made a presentation on the complex seismic studies carried out at the Republican Seismic Survey Center, on the activities of the network of seismic stations and the results of scientific research.

 

Murat Nurlu, head of AFAD Department of Earthquakes, spoke about the results of the seismic survey based on the data of seismic stations carried out in Turkey and the work done to assess the seismicity at construction sites. Vedat Ozsaradj, head of division of AFAD Department of Earthquakes, presented projects in the field of information exchange and joint research.

In conclusion, the guests were presented with gifts and commemorative pictures were taken.
