ANAS and AFAD signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of earthquake monitoring systems

On September 7, at the Baku Congress Center was held a ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of earthquake monitoring systems between the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Republic of Turkey (AFAD).

The event was attended by the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Isa Habibbayli, General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Okay Memish, Head of the Earthquake Department AFAD Professor Orkhan Tatar, head of the AFAD delegation, Professor Bahadir Aktug, employees of the AFAD Earthquake Department Vedat Ozsaradj and others.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli and the head of AFAD Okay Memish.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding, Turkey Acceleration Database and Analysis System (TADAS) developed by the Earthquake Department of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Republic of Turkey (AFAD), Seismogeodetic Earthquake Early Warning System (SIDER US), Earthquake Prediction and Analysis System (DEKAS), Earthquake Warning and Information System (DEMEBIS), Earthquake Initial Assessment Form provided by Turkey Earthquake Information Center (TDVMS) and Software information for automatic report preparation will be coordinated with ANAS. Participants will coordinate the exchange of the same number of earthquake observations and data from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations. At the same time, there will be a mutual exchange of information on the observation of earthquakes in ground and deep wells, the operation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations and data collection. According to the Memorandum of Understanding, trainings, seminars and workshops will be organized on internationally agreed topics.

It should be noted that the Memorandum of Understanding was signed on March 1, 2018 in Ankara by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and the Republican Seismic Survey Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) in order to strengthen relations between the two countries. The memorandum was signed taking into account the need for scientific cooperation between seismological organizations as a result of the development of a Protocol on cooperation on information exchange.
