An online meeting was held between the RSSC and the heads of the AFAD Departmentof Earthquakes
On September 26, an online meeting was held on the Zoom platform between the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the heads of the Department of Earthquakes of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey (AFAD).
The meeting was attended by the head of the AFAD Department of Earthquakes, Professor Murat Nurlu, the head of the Earthquake Observation System of the Department of Earthquakes Vedat Ozsarach and an employee of the Department Maltam Türkoglu, General Director of the RSSC of ANAS, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli and heads of the relevant departments of the Center. During the discussions, the forthcoming joint steps and work on the installation of 1 seismic station around the city of Shusha, which will be transferred to Azerbaijan by the Departmentof Earthquakes AFAD, were touched upon.
General Director of the RSSC, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli said that the installation of seismic stations in the territories liberated from occupation is a priority issue for the Center. Noting that the delay in the process of installing seismic stations in Karabakh is due to the continued demining of the liberated territories, the general director said that in order to install seismic stations, it is necessary to conduct an inspection of the area, and the technical parameters must be checked and observed. It is also important to have settlements in these areas so that the operation of the stations can be monitored.
The general director said that the seismic station, which Turkey will present to Azerbaijan, is planned to be installed around the city of Shusha. "It can also be considered a symbol of our brotherhood and unity both for the city of Shusha and for the entire Turkic world."
The head of the AFAD Department of Earthquakes, Professor Murat Nurlu said that at the end of October, the AFAD leadership intends to visit Azerbaijan. A visit of AFAD representatives to Shusha is also planned. Within the framework of the visit, seismologists from Turkey and Azerbaijan intend to survey the surroundings of Shusha in connection with the installation of a seismic station.
It should be noted that the meeting discussed the exchange of data from seismic stations between the two fraternal countries, participation in joint international projects and other issues.
