A meeting dedicated to the annual report on the results of 2023 of the Department of Earth Sciences of ANAS was held

On January 22, was held a meeting dedicated to the annual report of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) based on the results of 2023. Speaking at the meeting, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli spoke about the results of the annual reports on the divisions of ANAS and said that the reports on all divisions were heard and good results were achieved last year. Also in his speech, the President of ANAS noted that on November 3 last year, the new Charter of ANAS was approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. According to him, the main issue facing ANAS is the fundamental development of Azerbaijani science, while simultaneously ensuring the mutual integration of science and education, increasing the potential of scientific personnel.

Next, a report from the Department of Earth Sciences of ANAS was presented.

The report was presented by the deputy head of the Department of Earth Sciences of ANAS, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov. In his speech, Fakhraddin Gadirov spoke about the results obtained by the institutes and scientific organizations included in the Department of Earth Sciences.

During his speech, he said that research is being carried out in various areas and important results have been obtained. In his speech, Fakhraddin Gadirov touched upon the issues of cooperation between the Republican Seismic Survey Center of ANAS and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, and also spoke about the seismic stations that will be installed by the RSSC in Karabakh. The RSSC reported that work is underway to install a seismic station in Shusha.

In his speech, he also spoke about the earthquake that occurred in the Republic of Turkey in February last year. Azerbaijani seismologists conducted geophysical and seismological studies in the city of Kahramanmarash, which is the epicenter of the earthquake.

In his speech, F.Gadirov also spoke about the scientific research conducted by the Center in 2023. Fakhraddin Gadirov also spoke about the results obtained by the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, the Hasan Aliyev Institute of Geography and the Institute of Oil and Gas.

Then spoke the director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education, Academician Akif Alizade.

General Director of the Republican Seismic Survey Center, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Gurban Yetirmishli, during his speech, noted that 22 seismic stations purchased on the basis of a grant project were brought and installed in our country. For the first time in the world, volcanoes are being studied using seismic stations. The general director said that the stations are already operating and there are very good results. Research has also expanded into other areas.

Then spoke the heads of the Institute of Geography and other scientific institutions and organizations included in the Department of Earth Sciences.

ANAS President Isa Habibbeyli, in his final speech, once again spoke about the tasks facing the institutes and organizations included in the Department of Earth Sciences, and about increasing the potential of scientific personnel.

After discussing the remaining issues on the agenda, the report was adopted and the meeting ended.
